ROGAINE® Products
ROGAINE® products are FDA-approved, over-the-counter topical medications for the treatment of hair loss in both men and women. Minoxidil, the active ingredient in ROGAINE products, stimulates hair follicles and promotes new hair growth.
ROGAINE topical medication is applied directly to affected areas of the scalp twice a day. Although ROGAINE medication is not considered a miracle treatment, it is effective, with slightly higher success rates for women, in approximately 30 percent of patients. ROGAINE treatment may be used in conjunction with surgical approaches for the most effective results.
Men’s ROGAINE Foam
ROGAINE foam is most effective in treating male pattern hair loss and androgenetic alopecia, and, in general, relatively small areas of hair loss. Since the late 1980s, it has been available as a 2-percent solution, although a 5-percent solution (Men’s ROGAINE Extra Strength Topical Solution) is now available that is considered significantly more effective.
Women’s ROGAINE Topical Solution
ROGAINE topical solution is the only nonsurgical hair-restoration treatment for hereditary hair loss currently available for women, who tend to have more successful outcomes than men. Other forms of hair-restoration treatment can have an impact on the hormone levels of a male fetus, and are not safe for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant during treatment.
It may take up to 4 months before the results of ROGAINE treatment are visible. Side effects include burning, stinging or redness at the application site. The physician should be notified of any unusual side effects, or if no results are present after 6 months. ROGAINE products are not effective for all patients.
